About Our Work
Harmonizing Humans and Nature
Urban Wildlife Alliance began in the spring of 2013, when a small group of wildlife advocates, rescuers, and licensed rehabilitators came together to better protect and care for New York City’s wildlife.
By 2014, Urban Wildlife Alliance had received its nonprofit 501(c)(3) design with a mission to dedicated to the welfare of wildlife in urban and suburban areas, grounded in the principles of compassionate conservation.
As an all-volunteer grassroots network, we are deeply concerned about how increasing urban development and habitat loss are impacting city wildlife. In response, we work to foster compassion, awareness, and respect for the wild animals who share our streets and parks—recognizing them as sentient beings and essential members of our urban community.
Our Work
As a network of experienced licensed wildlife rehabilitators and rescuers, we are dedicated to the welfare of urban wildlife. We are committed to the concept of compassionate conservation and put our mission into practice by engaging in four main activities.
With increasing urbanization of the environment and the continuing loss of natural habitat, the fate of city wildlife has become our heartfelt concern.
Advocacy, Rehabilitation, Education, and Advice are the cornerstones of our endeavor to promote compassion and understanding for our wild neighbors and to ensure the peaceful coexistence of humans and wildlife in our city.

The AREA Plan
List of Services
-
AdvocacyList Item 1
Our Advocacy gives a voice to wildlife that cannot speak for themselves.
-
RehabilitationList Item 2
In our Rehabilitation work we strive to provide the best care possible for our wild patients. We do so by participating in continuing education offered by accredited wildlife organizations and agencies, exchanging experiences and case studies with colleagues locally and across the nation and participating in wildlife-related research programs.
-
EducationList Item 3
Another mainstay of our activities is Education. In addition to producing educational material and events for the public, we actively seek to get more New Yorkers involved in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation by organizing workshops and lectures, and offering a mentoring program for beginning wildlife rehabilitators. Our goal is to expand our network of licensed wildlife rehabilitators throughout the five boroughs and to establish a wildlife rescue team of well-trained volunteers who will be able to respond to wildlife-related issues on site. This service benefits our own network and also other wildlife-related organizations in the metro area.
